1954 World Cup Quarter Final Brazil V Hungary Programme - The Battle of the Berne
1954 World Cup Quarter Final Brazil V Hungary Programme - The Battle of the Berne
An infamous game in World Cup history where Hungary defeated Brazil, on their way to the final 4-2 and it is known as one of the dirtiest games in history. There were three red cards (Bozsik, Nílton Santos, Humberto) and brawls extended to the dressing rooms.
There were reports of Brazilian players invading the Hungarian dressing rooms and even the Hungarian manager, Gusztáv Sebes, being injured in the melee. The match was chaotic with 42 free kicks, 2 penalties, and 3 red cards (Brazil's Nilton Santos and Humberto Tozzi, and Hungary's József Bozsik).
The match itself was played on the 27th June 1954 at the Wankdorf Stadium, Berne with goals from Hidegkuti, Lantos, and two from Kocsis, while Djalma Santos and Julinho scored for Brazil.
A match programme that any real World Cup collector will want to own.
